Have You Had A Major Fire Or Flood In Your Home?
Work With a Walnut Creek, California, Lawyer Whose Goal Is to Help You Put Your Home Back Together in a Cost-Effective Way
Legal Background Including Insurance
I have been a civil litigation attorney for approximately 30 years. I was admitted to practice in California in 1978, and have been actively practicing law in California continuously since then. For more than half of my legal career, I represented major corporations, including insurers (large and small) and government entities in civil lawsuits in the California Courts.
As a litigator, I have gradually acquired experience in several legal practice areas, including (among others) construction, real estate, personal injury, and insurance. By representing insurance companies for many years, I developed a thorough understanding and practical knowledge of insurance policy interpretation, how the insurance claims process works, the statutes, regulations and California case law governing the conduct of insurers, and what “unfair claims practices” insurers are prohibited from engaging in. I now use the knowledge and experience gained in representing insurers, to more effectively represent policy holders/homeowners.
Construction Background Including Cost-Estimating
My insurance background and experience are complemented by my background and experience in construction. Over the course of my legal career, I have handled a variety of construction-related lawsuits, representing property owners, general contractors, subcontractors, other construction professionals and their insurers. Most of these lawsuits have involved construction projects, which have somehow gone awry, for example, botched home remodels.
This constructrion litigation background and my experience working with construction professionals and homeowners has given me a general familiarity with residential construction and what is involved in rebuilding/repairing a home, including a fire-damaged home. Though peripheral to my core legal practice, I have also personally prepared many successful repair bids, and all of the relevant contractual paperwork, for several relatively large home remodeling projects in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Legal Employment
I became a litigator in 1980 with Crosby, Heafy, Roach & May (now part of Reed Smith), in Oakland, CA, then one of the 10 largest law firms in Northern California. About six years thereafter, I began work with the smaller financial district firm of Sarrail, Lynch & Hall in San Francisco, CA, before opening the Law Offices of Bruce C.F. McArthur in Walnut Creek, CA in 1996. About a year later, I ceased representing insurers, and have been representing primarily individuals and small companies since then.
In recent years, I have increasingly drawn upon my background in (1) insurance, (2) construction and (3) construction cost-estimating, to help fire victims obtain full, fair and reasonable settlements from their insurers.
